BLENDER REVIEW – MAGIMIX LE BLENDER

BLENDER REVIEW – MAGIMIX LE BLENDER

I have been asked about my blender so many times in the last few months and I kept promising to do a blender review, but, I kept forgetting…over and over again. But here we are now doing a blender review!

232395138MAKE: Magimix    MODEL: Le Blender     PRICE: €199 on juicers.ie

TYPE OF JUG: Heat resistant glass. Special mention for the jug because I actually dropped this jug from a height, onto my glass chopping board, and then on to the floor…..and not a scratch! Thumbs up for the jug.

SETTINGS:Smoothies, ice, soups and desserts. There is a dial that you can turn to each of these settings, but there is also a speed setting, so you can go from 0 – 4 if you don’t think the blender understands your blending needs.

I can confirm that the smoothie setting is great and blitzes up a smoothie quickly and the end result is, well, smooth.

I’ve used the ice setting to turn frozen watermelon into watermelon slushies (with vodka :)). I’ve also used it to make bread crumbs with toast! It worked a treat!

BUT CAN IT BLEND DATES?

Yes! It can make all kinds of dates —juicey or dry— disintegrate into your smoothie, making them the healthiest sweetener to add to your fruit and vegetable concoctions.

This smoothie was made from dates, cocoa powder, water, plant based milk and some fresh mint leaves!

BUT CAN IT MAKE NUT BUTTERS?

It can indeed. Well, even better, it can make chocolate hazelnut spread i.e. healthy Nutella! This is made from…hazelnuts…obviously..so I presume a nut butter would be just as easy! IMG_9255-001 IMG_9256-001

BUT CAN IT MAKE SAUCE FROM VEGETABLES?

This is a bit of a random one but did you know you can make bechamel sauce from cauliflower? And gravy from mushrooms? When you go vegan and buy a blender, the world is your oyster! There are so many possibilities! I made this amazing bechamel sauce as part of a lasagne recipe which you can find here.IMG_1700

BUT CAN IT MAKE ENERGY BALLS?

It sure can. You will need to use the tamper though to push some bits down as they tend to get pushed up as they blend. But the end result does the job. Whatever you’re using to make your “balls” will form a paste and then you rub it between your hands to form a ball shape! Here are some I made recently, the recipe of which can be found under the picture on Instagram. 13923709_1072032496224262_3184399336528162624_o

FINAL OPINION?

This blender is strong and sturdy and can do nearly everything – as pointed out above. If you compare it to a Vitamix, which is the top of the range, it is not much different (except the price!). The Vitamix has a few extra features that are what makes it top class, but for domestic use, the Magimix is ideal. Especially at the low price of €199! A good €500 cheaper than a Vitamix!

Obviously if money is no object and you enjoy the best of the best of things, then by all means, indulge in a Vitamix. In 2014/15 I had the pleasure of having access to a Vitamix for the guts of a year, and yes, it is fiercely powerful! However, I don’t think smoothies made in the Magimix are any less smooth. Also, the Magimix is a lot prettier with its glass jug and vintage style base in a choice of colours.

My verdict is: I love my blender. It’s pretty and makes my smoothies smooth. And, best of all, it didn’t cost an arm and a leg!
